RhinoStone Temple Pilots‘ deluxe 25th anniversary reissue of their 1992 debut album Core features recordings from the band’s 1993 performance on MTV Unplugged. Ahead of the reissue’s release later this month, STP has shared the Unplugged rendition of their song “Wicked Garden” via Soundcloud.

“That was nerve-wracking. I was so nervous,” bassist Robert DeLeo tells Billboard of the Unplugged performance. “There’s something about volume and turning things up so loud that allows you to hide behind the wall of sound, and there we were doing something we’d only done together when we were alone in a room, just us.”

The Core reissue will arrive on September 29 — 25 years to the day after the album was originally released.

DeLeo also spoke about the future of Stone Temple Pilots, who announced last year they were holding auditions for a new lead singer. Original frontman Scott Weiland parted ways with STP in 2013, after which Chester Bennington joined the band and handled lead vocals until November 2015. Weiland died in December 2015, and Bennington died last July.

“[Guitarist] Dean [DeLeo] and I are always writing music, whether it’s for STP or not,” says Robert. “Hopefully we will find a singer who will be that guy, and represent what we want to do moving forward.

“I think there’s a lot of music to be made, still, and I think we all feel we want to continue,” he continues. “Not only that, but also playing songs that we wrote 25, 30 years ago that mean a lot to me, and I think there’s people out there who want to hear those songs, too.”
