Capitol/UMeRemastered editions of two of Ringo Starr‘s classic early solo albums, 1973’s Ringo and 1974’s Goodnight Vienna, will be issued on high-quality 180-gram vinyl January 19.

Ringo, which was the ex-Beatles drummer’s third studio effort, peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell more than a million copies in the U.S., making it Starr’s highest-charting and best-selling solo album. It featured songwriting, instrumental and vocal contributions by all three of his former Fab Four band mates, and yielded three smash singles — the chart-toppers “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful and You’re Mine),” and the #5 hit “Oh My My.”

The Ringo album also features the talents of a variety of other famous guest artists, including Harry Nilsson, T. Rex‘s Marc Bolan, members of The Band, Steve Cropper, Billy Preston, and Martha Reeves.

Ringo‘s follow-up, Goodnight Vienna, features songs written or co-written by John Lennon, Elton John, Nilsson, Allen Toussaint, and Hoyt Axton. The album reached #8 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies in the U.S. Starr’s rendition of the Axton co-write “The No No Song” peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Ringo’s cover of the 1955 Platters tune “Only You” made it to #6 on the chart.

Among the many guest musicians appearing on Goodnight Vienna were Lennon, Elton, Nilsson, Cropper, Preston, The Band’s Robbie Robertson, Dr. John, and Gary Wright.

Meanwhile, Ringo’s 1999 holiday album, I Wanna Be Santa Claus, has just been released on vinyl for the first time. Starr’s most recent solo album, Give More Love, hit stores in September.
