Capitol/UMe

Capitol/UMeIt’s about time hair metal started getting some respect.  To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Poison‘s monster hit album, Open Up and Say…Ahh!, it’s been re-released on 180-gram red and green vinyl.

The reissue also features the album’s then-controversial cover, showing a female model made up to look like a tiger, with glowing green eyes, big ’80s hair, black claws, and an extended tongue that looks to be about a foot long, all tinted blood red.  Later issues of the album featured an all-black cover image, with only the model’s eyes exposed as if through a tear in the cover.

Released May 3, 1988, Open Up and Say…Ahh! was Poison’s second album and features “Nothin’ but a Good Time” and their cover of the Loggins and Messina hit “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” both of which were top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.  It also includes the power ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” the glam rockers’ only U.S. #1 hit.  The album’s since gone five-times platinum in the U.S. and remains Poison’s most successful release.

If you want the red vinyl version, you can only get it at Amazon, at least for now — list price is $14.29.  You’d better move fast if you want the green vinyl pressing, though.  Only 1,000 copies are available for $24.98 a pop, and only from TheSoundofVinyl.
