RollingStone.com reports the pair performed the song they co-wrote, “Because the Night,” with Smith’s band backing them.

The live set followed a Tribeca Film Festival screening of the new documentary Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band, about the January 2016 shows where Smith and company performed her 1975 album Horses in its entirety to commemorate its 40th anniversary. After the screening, the curtain rose and revealed Smith and her band.

Springsteen stayed ’til the end of the short show and helped Smith close with “People Have the Power,” with R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe also joining in.

There’s audience-recorded video of Monday night’s “Because the Night” and “People Have the Power” available on YouTube.
