Mary McCartney/MPL CommunicationsPaul McCartney recently performed for about 50 people at a Liverpool pub while recording a “Carpool Karaoke” segment for an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden airing this week. Saturday, the rock legend played at a similarly intimate gathering. TMZ reports that the former Beatle was attending the wedding reception of one of his wife’s relatives on Long Island, New York, when he decided to join the band for a few tunes.
The tabloid website has posted a video clip of McCartney belting out the Beatles classic “I Saw Her Standing There” as party goers dance wildly. According to TMZ, about 300 people were on hand for the event, which took place at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, New York. It’s understood that the groom was the nephew of Paul’s wife, Nancy Shevell.
McCartney currently has even more reason to celebrate: Today marks his 76th birthday. Meanwhile, recent posts on his social media sites suggest that Sir Paul is about to announce details of the new solo album he’s been recording. Interesting pyramid-like graphics that seem to be related to the new project’s cover art have appeared on the websites over the last week or so, as well as photos of McCartney in the studio. A brief video that was posted Monday on his Twitter feed includes sketches of pyramids and palm trees, along with the words “Egypt Station.”
Getting back to that Late Late Show appearance, McCartney’s “Carpool Karaoke” segment has been confirmed to air this Thursday, June 21. The Late Late Show airs on CBS at 12:37 a.m. ET/11:37 p.m. CT.
