No more rumors: Steve Perry is back.

The former Journey singer has announced that his very long-awaited new solo album, Traces, will be out October 5. The first single, “No Erasin’” is now available.

In a message on Twitter, he writes, “Years ago, I disappeared. There were many reasons but mainly…my love for music had suddenly left me. I knew that simply stopping was what I had to do.”

“If music was ever to return to my heart, then and only then I would figure out what to do. If not..so be it, for I had already lived the dream of dreams,” he continues.

“Many years passed.  One day, I began sketching some musical ideas with the creative freedom that I was the only one who would ever hear them. One song led to many,” Perry writes.  “My love for music had returned. Then another beautiful thing happened. I found love.”

“My precious Kellie gave me a life I never knew I had,” Perry writes about his relationship with Kellie Nash, a woman who was batting breast cancer.  “I lost her December of 2012. I now deeply understand the meaning of ‘It’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.”

On his website, Perry further explains that it was Nash who encouraged him “not to keep isolating myself anymore.”  He began recording in May of 2015.

“I’m not trying to top what I’ve done in the past, or better anyone or anything. That stuff doesn’t matter to me now. In a way, it’s this simple: when I had something to say again, I said it,” he notes. “All I’m trying to do now is make music that really matters to me and I hope maybe will really matter to other people too.”
