Michael Loccisano/Getty Images for MTVAs expected, Aerosmith brought the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards to a close with a rocking performance last night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. As had been rumored, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers were joined onstage by hitmaking rapper-singer Post Malone, although they didn’t perform “Walk This Way,” as TMZ had reported they would.

The ceremony’s finale began with Malone singing his chart-topping hit “Rockstar” with rapper 21 Savage. Then, Post declared, “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s f****** Aerosmith!” as Steven Tyler and company appeared at the back of the stage and kicked into an abbreviated version of their classic power ballad “Dream On.”

Aerosmith then ripped into their 1975 gem “Toys in the Attic,” as Malone accompanied them on guitar and backing vocals. Late in the song, Joe Perry kicked into a wailing solo and proceeded to stick the neck of his guitar into one of his amplifiers, as smoke poured out of the amp. Watch the performance now at MTV’s official YouTube channel.

After the event, Tyler took to Twitter to sing the praises of Malone, writing, “PostMalone = THE FUTURE OF MUSIC.”

In a follow-up message, Steven tweeted, “@Aerosmith x @PostMalone x @21savage = A SMASHGASM OF AWESOME.”

As previously reported, Aerosmith will be kicking off a Las Vegas residency dubbed Deuces Are Wild in April 2019 at the Park MGM resort.
