Concord RecordsThis past December, Carlos Santana revealed to ABC Radio that he and his band would be releasing a new studio album this year titled Africa Speaks, inspired by African music. Now the first single from that record has arrived.
The song, titled “Los Invisibles” and featuring vocals by Spanish singer Buika, is available for purchase now digitally and via streaming services. It’s highlighted by Carlos’ blazing, wah-wah-driven guitar solos and Buika’s impassioned, joyous singing.
You also can check out the song at Santana‘s official YouTube channel. The tune is accompanied by an animated video that brings the Africa Speaks album cover art to life, showing a vividly colored tribal mask with wings and other images evoking African folk art.
Africa Speaks was produced by Rick Rubin, and was recorded over a prolific 10-day period at Rubin’s Shangri La Studios in Malibu, California.
As Carlos told ABC Radio, “We recorded 49 African songs in 10 days, and they are filled with power and dynamism and grace.” He added that the album likely will include between 14 and 20 of the tracks.
The 71-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer also said at the time that he expected Africa Speaks would be released “between spring and summer” of 2019. No official release date has been announced yet.
Buika appears on numerous tracks on the album, which will also include vocal contributions from U.K. artist Laura Mvula.
In January, Santana released an EP titled In Search of Mona Lisa, featuring three new original songs inspired by a visit Carlos paid to the Louvre museum in Paris, where he saw Leonardo da Vinci‘s Mona Lisa for the first time.
