Only 1500 copies of each colored-vinyl edition of the Labyrinth soundtrack will be sold worldwide; they are available for pre-order now at UDiscoverMusic.com. In addition, a second pressing of the 120-gram black-vinyl version of the album also will be released on August 4.
Labyrinth was directed by late Muppets creator Jim Henson, with a screenplay by Monty Python member Terry Jones. The film tells the story of a young girl, played by a then-15-year-old Jennifer Connelly, who must travel through an otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother after she unwittingly wishes him away. Bowie plays Jareth, the Goblin King, who takes possession of the child. The movie also features numerous puppet creations from Henson’s Creature Shop.
The soundtrack includes a six-part instrumental score by film composer Trevor Jones, in addition to the five original Bowie songs: “Underground,” “Magic Dance,” “Chilly Down,” “As the World Falls Down” and “Within You.” Bowie contributed lead vocals on all of the tunes except for “Chilly Down.”
