“SpongeBob SquarePants” musical cast recording, featuring new songs penned by Aerosmith members & other stars, due next month

Masterworks BroadwayThe stage musical based on the irreverent Nickelodeon cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, which features original songs by Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and other music stars, will open on Broadway in November. In advance of the show’s arrival on the Great White Way, an original cast recording will be released September 22 on CD and digitally.

Among the songs featured in the musical is “Bikini Bottom Boogie,” which was penned for the show by Tyler and Perry. The production also features a performance of the 1995 David Bowie song “No Control.”

Other well-known artists who contributed new tunes to the musical include Cyndi Lauper, The Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, Panic! at the Disco, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Plain White T’s and T.I.

A two-LP vinyl version of The Original Cast Recording of SpongeBob SquarePants — The New Musical will be released on November 3, three days before the show’s Broadway premiere at the Palace Theater.
