Some road closures removed

5:05 p.m.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol are removing a road closure.  Highway 12 between Pythian Road and Dunbar Road is now open.  All areas north of Highway 12, commonly called the “east side,” are still closed due to the fires.  Law enforcement personnel are still enforcing road closures on the north side of Highway 12 for your safety.

Evacuation orders lifted in some areas.

 The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is lifting all evacuation orders in the following areas.  If you live in these areas, you can return home now.  There will be more law enforcement personnel in your neighborhood to keep you safe.  You do not need to check in with anyone and you do not need a law enforcement escort.  Return to your neighborhood as you normally would.

 

  • Portion of Geyserville:  Highway 128 north to Vanoni Road outside the burn area.
  • Portion of City of Santa Rosa: Oakmont neighborhood to include all streets south of Highway 12, east of Calistoga Road to Pythian Road. All northbound roads off Highway 12 are still closed, under mandatory evacuation orders.
  • Portion of Sonoma Valley: The unincorporated areas east of Sonoma to include the following areas: east of 4th Street East to Lovall Valley Road at Thornsberry including Lovall Valley Court; south of Lovall Valley Road to East Napa Street; the area east of 7th East to the burn area and Highway 121; and all streets south from East Napa Street to Napa Road.
  • Portion of City of Santa Rosa: The medical complex located at 3536 and 3540 Mendocino Avenue. All areas within the mandatory evacuation zone around the complex will remain in place. The only access to the complex is via Steele Lane north to Mendocino Avenue.

Some areas are without power.  If your home does not have electricity, PG&E anticipates restoring service to all electric customers as soon as possible.  If your home does not have gas service, please visit www.pge.com and click on “wildfire response” for a gas relight schedule or call 1-800-743-5000.

Conditions are subject to change at a moment’s notice. Please continue to adhere to road closures and any evacuation warnings. If you see electrical wires on the ground, stay clear and contact PG&E immediately. Trees and poles with deep charring, particularly if still smoking, should be considered hazardous. Please drive slowly and yield to emergency personnel in the area. If at any time you feel unsafe, please call 911. There will still be smoke in the respective areas as firefighters continue firefighting operations. We encourage the public to remain prepared for wildfires by visiting www.readyforwildfire.org.

All other mandatory evacuation areas are still closed.  We will send an alert for each area as it re-opens.

Evacuation lifted in Oakmont and Mendocino Ave. Medical Complex.

 As of 1:00 p.m. today, the evacuation has been lifted for: the Oakmont neighborhood to include all streets south of Highway 12, east of Calistoga Road to Pythian Road. All northbound roads off Highway 12, including Highway 12 eastbound at Pythian Road, will still be closed under mandatory evacuations orders.

Additionally, the evacuation has been lifted for the medical complex located at 3536 and 3540 Mendocino Avenue. All areas within the mandatory evacuation zone around the complex will remain in place. The only access to the complex will be via Steele Lane north to Mendocino Avenue.

 As of 5:00 p.m. today, the evacuation has been lifted for the area of Bennett Valley/Annadel Heights in the city limits of Santa Rosa. Welcome home!

Advisory: Mandatory evacuations lifted in Bennett Valley, Kenwood, Glen Ellen, Boyes, Sonoma.

Welcome Home! The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is lifting all evacuation orders in the following areas.  If you live in these areas, you can return home now.  Please read the instructions for your neighborhood below.  There will be more law enforcement personnel in your neighborhood to keep you safe.

Bennett Valley Road and the area east of Petaluma Hill Road.  This area is open except for the road closures listed below.  You do not need to check in with anyone or have a law enforcement escort.

Note that Bennett Valley Road between Holly Oak Way and Keiser Ranch Road is still closed. This includes Enterprise, Old Bennett Ridge, Bardy and Rollo Rd. These area are closed.

The following road closures have been removed and roads are now open:

Kenwood:  Residents located outside the burn area will be allowed to return home. Areas outside of the burn area are defined by the road closures listed below.

There are two ways to access Kenwood.  From Bennett Valley Road, take Sonoma Mountain Road to Warm Springs Road into Kenwood.  From Petaluma Hill Road, take Warm Springs Road into Kenwood.  All residents must check in at the checkpoint at Warm Springs Road at Mound Avenue.  Bring your ID or paperwork that shows you live in Kenwood.

Boyes Hot Springs: Advisory evacuations lifted, including area east of Hwy 12 to the fire perimeter and south from Madrone Rd to Verano Ave.

Glen Ellen: East of Arnold Dr to fire perimeter and south from Martin St.

City of Sonoma: East of Hwy 12 to 4th St East and south of E. Verano to East and West Spain St.

City of Sonoma: 7th St East from E. Napa St south to Denmark St.

Advisory: Press briefing at 1pm at Fairgrounds

Cal Fire, along with Santa Rosa Fire and the Sonoma County Sheriff, will hold a joint 1:00 PM press briefing today at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. All information relating to fire progress and missing persons will be updated at that time.

There will be a press briefing conducted in Spanish shortly after this press briefing.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office will live stream both briefings on our Facebook page. There will be no 6:00 PM briefing.

Returning to your Property

We understand you are anxious to return to your neighborhood, but for your safety and the protection of your home and personal property, entry is not allowed until mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted. We are working to make this happen as soon as it is safe.

Public safety cannot provide escorts into the evacuated areas. All of our resources are committed to actively fighting the fire. Please cooperate with first responders. We are relying on you to follow these instructions to ensure your safety and the safety of our first responders.

Notices of lifted mandatory evacuations and allowable re-entry will be sent out via Nixle alerts. Sign up for Nixle alerts by texting your ZIP CODE to 888777 or sign up online. Recent Nixle alerts can be viewed online.

To prepare for re-entry and returning home:

Make sure you have ID. If you do not, visit the Local Assistance Center

Please Take Precautions When Returning to Home
• Wear sturdy shoes and clothing
• Hazardous chemicals and conditions may be present
• Inspect propane tanks for visible damage before turning on
• Wear protective gear when sorting through possessions, anything in contact with ash should be
sanitized and cleaned
• Food may be spoiled
GARBAGE SERVICE: A special garbage collection will take place, in the re-populated areas only, on
Saturday, October 14. As your garbage bins fill up, you may use any bin (even recycling) for general
waste for this special pick-up only. However, all trash MUST be in a bin, debris left on the curb will not
be picked up. General waste does not include hazardous materials, they must be disposed of properly,
see http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/ or
http://recyclenow.org/. On Monday, October 16, regular pick-up services and schedule will resume.
DANGEROUS CHEMICALS: Asbestos, heavy metals, by-products of plastic combustion and various
other chemicals may be present in your home and neighborhood.
FOOD PRODUCTS: If your refrigerator has been non-operational for an extended period of
time, the food inside it has gone bad. When in doubt, throw it out! Use gloves and safety
glasses.
ELECTRICITY: If electricity is off, before turning it on, make sure all appliances are turned off. Once you
are sure all appliances are turned off, there is no fire damage to your building and
the meter does not have any visible damage, you may turn on the main circuit breaker.

PROPANE FIRE DANGER: Call provider to inspect tanks and relight pilots. If you smell gas,
shut off valve immediately. Please don’t be the source of an additional fire in your community!
WATER QUALITY ISSUES: Water and sewer service in Santa Rosa has not been affected, with the
exception of two isolated areas in Oakmont and Fountaingrove.
UTILITY WORK AND TREE HAZARDS: When returning to your community, please be aware of utility
workers on the road in addition to potential falling trees. For tree hazards: Recreation and Parks, 543-
3770. For general road debris: Public Works, 543-3800. For water and sewer: Santa Rosa Water, 543-
4200.

Wikiup and the area to the north, and east of Old Redwood Highway, including Faught Road, are now open to the public, except for the following closed areas:


Larkfield: The area north of the Larkfield Shopping Center that is outside the burned area as defined by the road closures listed below.


The County is attempting to resume regular garbage service in this area as soon as possible, hopefully in the next few days.

This precaution applies to Fountaingrove residents who live:
– east of Mendocino Avenue
– north of Chanate Road
– west of Fountaingrove Parkway, and
– south of Mark West Springs Road;

Oakmont residents who live on:
– White Oak Drive south of Madelyne Court, including Madelyne Place, and on Oak Mesa Drive south of Starry Knoll Court, including Shooting Star Place.

Advisory: No new evacuations taking place in Penngrove.

There was a Nixle sent out by a fire department about current evacuations in Penngrove which has generated concerns from Penngrove residents. These are areas that were already evacuated earlier in the week and remain under evacuation. The intent was to inform the public of areas under evacuation. There are no new evacuations taking place there.

The Sheriff’s mandatory evacuation order applies to everyone. There are no exceptions. These areas are very unsafe due to hot spots, downed power lines, etc. We are not offering escorts to properties within the evacuation zones.

Sonoma State University has canceled all classes and university business until Monday, October 16, and the Green Music Center has followed suit by cancelling the performances scheduled this weekend.

-2 Press Conferences, 1st focused on Napa

-10/10/17 was an aggressive day for fire behavior.  10/11/17 is back to Red Flag conditions and Cal Fire is expecting fire growth today.

-Certain road closures have reverted to ‘unstaffed closures’.  This means signs saying ‘Road Closed’ but no personnel on site.  This is still a very dangerous closure and please abide by these closures.

-CHP Air Ops has saved 50 people including pets

-The Nunns fired has burned into Napa County.  7,000 acres, 2% containment

-Atlas Peak has burned 42,000 acres, 0% containment

-Partrick/Carneros fire has burned 9,000 acres, 2% containment

-Power has been restored to Yountville, PG&E working round the clock, still 7,000 people without power

-439 Horses being sheltered in Napa

-6pm Townhall Meeting at Napa City Hall to address public concerns.

-Sonoma County Sheriff was 2nd press conference at 9:30am, mostly question and answer with media.

-670 missing persons in Sonoma County, 110 have been found.  They believe most are simply not located at shelters currently, but don’t know for sure.

-All department press conference at 1pm today at Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

-Between 1500-3000 structures have been lost.

-The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office is raising the total number to 11 bodies recovered related to Sunday night’s Tubbs fire. The deceased were located in the following areas:

2 – Angela Drive, Larkfield
2 – Mark West Springs Road, Larkfield
1 – Coffey Lane, Santa Rosa
1 – Crystal Court, Santa Rosa
1 – Mountain Home Ranch Road, Santa Rosa (Calistoga, County line area)
1 – Hemlock St, Santa Rosa
2 – Sundown Trail, Santa Rosa
1 – Wikiup Bridge Way, Larkfield

-That brings the current total for fatalities in all North Bay Fires to 17 people

-Feds have approved fire assistance grants.  This means that people affected will be able to access grant money and low interest loans.

-FEMA already has boots on the ground making assessments, which should expedite the process.

-The community of Willits is having difficulty getting updates

-Firefighting force is over 5000 people.  Many came off the line this morning after 40 hours straight.

-77 cell sites have been damaged or destroyed, only 35 sites are operational in Sonoma Couny

-AT&T has boots on the ground, and are setting up 5 new cell sites on Mt. St. Helena tonight

-Comcast has been difficult, and authorities expect them to “step it up”

-Fiber optic cable has been cut by the fire in Mendocino County, affecting financial traffic

-The National Guard has been deployed

-STAY OUT of areas with Mandatory Evacuations, attempting to enter is impeding emergency crews work

-People in the Larkfield and Fountaingrove areas north of Santa Rosa are being warned tap water may not be drinkable for days. Officials from the company that supplies water to about two-thousand-500 homes and businesses said water may not be confirmed drinkable until tomorrow at the earliest. The Tubbs fire has damaged storage tanks and a pumping station, and crews are shutting off running water to damaged homes to provide more water for firefighters.

-More than 80-thousand acres have burned in Northern California

-15-hundred homes and commercial structures have been damaged.

-15 confirmed fatalities across the 5 North Bay fires

-Confirmed landmarks lost: Hilton Sonoma Wine Country, the Fountaingrove Inn, the historic Fountaingrove Round Barn and the buildings at Paradise Ridge Winery, Schmitt Firearms, Willi’s Wine Bar and Cricklewood restaurant.

-Comcast is offering complimentary WiFi to all North Bay residents.  Go into your device’s ‘Settings’ click on ‘Wifi’ and it’ll search for available Wifi and select Xfinity.

All Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital patients were safely transferred to other area hospitals.
