The special will feature a variety of famous guests who will pay homage to the late luminaries. Alice Cooper and country singer Hunter Hayes will appear in the segments honoring Petty and Berry.

The hour-long show was conceived by talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel and will be emceed by Robin Roberts.

“The In Memoriam segments are always the most moving parts of a major awards show,” notes Kimmel. “Robin and I thought it would be fitting to pay longer-form and more personal tribute to these American icons with great stories from their friends, colleagues and peers.”

Among the other stars whose lives and legacy will be saluted during the show are Mary Tyler Moore, Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles and Glen Campbell.

A companion special anchored by Roberts titled The Year: 2017, looking at the major events that took place during the past 12 months, airs on ABC on Tuesday, December 19, at 9 p.m. ET.
