Steven Tyler hosting Grammy viewing party to benefit his Janie's Fund charity

Courtesy of Janie’s FundSteven Tyler will host a new benefit event that will celebrate the Grammy Awards while raising money for Janie’s Fund, the charity that the Aerosmith singer co-founded to help young women and girls who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse. Tyler’s inaugural Grammy Viewing Party will take place at the historic RED Studios in Los Angeles on January 28.

Along with a telecast of the Grammy ceremony, the gala will feature a multi-course dinner conceived by country singer Trisha Yearwood, a live auction and a performance by Tyler with his solo backing band — the Nashville-based Loving Mary.

“This gala is more than a night out, it’s a break on through to the other side for these girls whose lives have been stunted,” Tyler says in a statement. “It’s an opportunity to learn of the valuable work we will be doing to get them there. It’s time to bring the awareness out of the darkness and into the light for these girls, for all to see.”

A number of celebrities are serving as co-chairs for the event, including Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Joe Walsh, Lionel Richie and Yoko Ono.

Tyler helped launch Janie’s Fund in November 2015 in partnership with the Youth Villages personal-services nonprofit. The charity, whose name was inspired by the Aerosmith hit “Janie’s Got a Gun,” has raised more than $2.5 million since its inception.

Last month saw the opening of Janie’s House, an Atlanta-area residential center created by Janie’s Fund in partnership with Youth Villages that will accommodate up to 30 girls and young women seeking a haven from abusive situations.

The 60th annual Grammy Awards takes place January 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and airs live on CBS at 7:30 p.m. ET.
