Foghat bassist Craig McGregor dead at 68

Rick Diamond/Getty Images for IEBALongtime Foghat bassist Craig MacGregor died Friday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.

The band announced McGregor’s passing in a statement on its official website that reads, “[I]t is with great sadness that we are letting you know that we have lost our brother, good friend, husband, father and band mate this morning.”

“He passed peacefully in his wife, Lisa MacGregor‘s arms after a prolonged battle with cancer. Please respect the privacy of the family and band members at this time… Rest in Peace Thunderfingers.”

McGregor became a member of Foghat in 1976, and appeared on many of the band’s popular recordings, including its multi-platinum 1977 concert album, Live. Craig played with the group until 1982, and rejoined them a couple times during the 1980s before returning to the fold full-time in 2005.

He remained part of Foghat until his death, although his illness forced to stop performing with the group in 2015.  McGregor also contributed to Foghat’s most recent studio album, Under the Influence, which was released in 2016.
