The Lazarus performance that was filmed for the movie took place during the musical’s London run at Kings Cross Theatre from November 2016 to January 2017. The production was inspired by the 1963 Walter Tevis novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, the 1976 film version of which starred Bowie in the lead role as the alien Thomas Jerome Newton.
The musical’s cast was led by Dexter and Six Feet Under star Michael C. Hall as Newton, while the soundtrack included a variety of classic Bowie tunes, as well as the four songs written specifically for the production. Among the latter was “Lazarus,” which also appeared on David’s final studio album, 2016’s Blackstar.
Tickets for Lazarus: The Motion Picture/Live Soundtrack Experience go on sale to the public Tuesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster.com. Pre-sale tickets are available now.
