The last time Stewart was in the top 10 on that chart was in 2012, when he spent five weeks at #1 with “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow,” from his album Merry Christmas Baby. To find the last time he was in the top 10 with a non-Christmas song, you’d have to go further back…12 years ago, to be exact.
In 2006, Stewart reached the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart with his version of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” from Still the Same…Great Rock Classics of Our Time.
But to find the last time Rod managed to hit the top 10 with a song he actually wrote, well, you have to go back further back still…19 years ago.
In 1999, Stewart landed in the top 10 of the chart with his original song “Faith of the Heart,” from the soundtrack of the movie Patch Adams. That song reached #3.
Rod’s career now includes 23 top 10 hits on Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary chart. Stewart’s old pal Elton John holds the records with 39 top 10s.
“Didn’t I” is from Rod’s new album Blood Red Roses, due out September 28.
Meanwhile, a couple of other Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees also have made inroads on Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary tally. Ex-Journey singer Steve Perry‘s new solo tune “No Erasin'” sits at #21 on the chart, while U2‘s current single “Love Is Bigger than Anything in Its Way” is at #24.
