ABC/Randy Holmes

ABC/Randy HolmesGibson has announced a new, limited-edition ES-335 guitar in honor of Chris Cornell. The instrument will be unveiled during Wednesday night’s star-studded tribute concert to the late grunge icon, held in Los Angeles.

“It is our honor to release this tribute ES-335 in [Cornell’s] memory,” says Gibson Chief Merchant Officer Cesar Gueikian. “It’s a guitar Chris fell in love with and which became a part of his creative expression. Chris was a special artist and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound and inspiration, just like Chris did, for many years to come.”

A run of just 250 pieces will be available for purchase this spring. Visit Gibson.com for more info.

In related news, Faith No More frontman Mike Patton has announced that he won’t be able to perform at the tribute concert as planned due to illness. Patton’s sickness also forced him to cancel a performance of the national anthem before last weekend’s NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys.

As for who will be performing tonight, the stacked lineup includes Foo Fighters, Metallica, Queens of the Stone Age‘s Josh Homme, The Pretty RecklessTaylor Momsen, Fiona Apple, Ryan Adams, pop star Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine, R&B artist Miguel and country musician Chris Stapleton, as well as members of Cornell’s bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog.
