Credit: Mads PerchAt a late January show in Bishop’s Castle, U.K., Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant introduced his new group Saving Grace, which is reportedly influenced by Welsh folk music. Now comes word that the group will be playing more concerts this month.
Veteran British folk rockers Fairport Convention have announced that Plant and Saving Grace will be opening for them at three upcoming U.K. gigs: February 14 in Basingstoke, February 16 in Bath and February 22 in St. Albans.
Plant is a longtime friend and fan of Fairport Convention, and he contributed vocals to a track on the group’s 2017 album 50:50@50. He also performed with the band in 1986 and 2008 at its annual festival in Cropredy, U.K.
You may recall that late Fairport Convention singer Sandy Denny famously duetted with Robert on the 1971 Led Zeppelin song “The Battle of Evermore.”
According to a recap of Saving Grace’s Bishop’s Castle show that was posted on the Facebook page of the venue, the group features Plant on vocals and harmonica, Suzi Dian on vocals, Tony Kelsey and Matt Worley on multiple string instruments and Oli Jefferson on percussion.
Robert has yet to announce any official information about Saving Grace.
Meanwhile, Plant’s 2019 schedule also includes an appearance at the star-studded, third annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert March 7 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. He’s also got a June-July tour of Scandinavia lined up with his current primary backing band, The Sensational Space Shifters.
