Recently announced plans for a three-day music extravaganza commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival this August have changed a bit.

The original plan was for the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the venue located at the original site of the historic event in Bethel, New York, to host the Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival, featuring performances by both established and up-and-coming artists, plus other activities, from August 16 to 18.  Now that’s been replaced by Anniversary Week, which includes a series of special concerts on those days.

Anniversary Week will kick off August 15 with a screening of the Director’s Cut of the Oscar-winning 1970 documentary Woodstock. Then, on August 16, Bethel Woods will feature a concert headlined by Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band, with support from folk great Arlo Guthrie and veteran rocker Edgar Winter. Guthrie played solo at the 1969 Woodstock fest, while Winter took part in his brother Johnny‘s set.

Another Woodstock alum, Santana, will headline a show August 17 that also will feature The Doobie Brothers. Anniversary Week will come to a close on the 18th with a concert featuring as-yet-unannounced performers.

Anniversary Week will be part of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts’ just-announced Woodstock commemoration, dubbed A Season of Song & Celebration, that will include a variety of shows, events and exhibitions. The festivities will kick off March 30 with an exhibit titled We Are Golden — Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival and Aspirations for a Peaceful Future.

As previously reported, an official 50th anniversary celebration of the 1969 Woodstock festival, dubbed Woodstock 50, will take place August 16 to August 18 at Watkins Glen International race track in Watkins Glen, New York.
