In 1971, Joni Mitchell put together a book called Morning Glory on the Vine featuring her poems, handwritten lyrics and artwork, which she gave as a holiday gift to her close friends. Now, a reproduction of the book is scheduled to be officially published on October 22 in conjunction with the lauded singer/songwriter’s recent 75th birthday.

Only 100 copies of the original book were created, all hand-signed and numbered and featuring 30 illustrations, paintings and watercolors by Joni. The book has rarely been seen since its initial release.

The facsimile edition, titled Morning Glory on the Vine: Early Songs and Drawings, will include a new introduction penned by Mitchell, plus additional paintings dating from the time period that didn’t appear in the original book. A special limited-edition version signed by Joni also will be available.

“Fans of many generations recognize Joni Mitchell’s brilliant shape-shifting ability to capture our minds, hearts, and souls,” says Ellen Archer, president of publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media. “Morning Glory on the Vine shares Joni’s vibrant visual artistry alongside the words and music we have all come to know and love.”

Morning Glory on the Vine can be pre-ordered at HMHCo.com for the list price of $40.
