The Pretenders‘ Chrissie Hynde has revealed that she will be releasing a long-in-the-works album this summer called Valve Bone Woe, which she recorded with award-winning producers and film score composers Marius de Vries and Eldad Guetta.
Hynde will be showcasing tracks from the album at a special concert on July 6 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will be accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at the show. According to a description of the event, Valve Bone Woe is a jazz-dub record that includes renditions of songs by The Beach Boys, The Kinks‘ Ray Davies, Nick Drake and others. The concerts also will feature performances of select Pretenders tunes.
In a post on The Pretenders’ Facebook page, Chrissie says the Hollywood Bowl concert will feature her performing with a group dubbed the Valve Bone Woe Ensemble. She notes that she might play “some other shows” with the outfit, but is “still waiting for offers.”
Hynde also reveals that she and Pretenders guitarist James Walbourne “have been assembling songs, and to our surprise, we have enough for the next Pretenders Album, so we’re planning on recording that soon instead of next year.”
Chrissie adds that the band was planning to begin rehearsing the new material this past week.
In addition, Hynde reports that she’s been painting so much lately that her “paintings are now crowding me out of my flat, so [I] hope to get them in a gallery somewhere by the end of the year.”
Last November, a coffee-table book of Chrissie’s artwork titled Adding the Blue. You can check out a video featuring Hynde discussing her paintings at Genesis-Publications.com. The clip also includes an exclusive segment of music from Valve Bone Woe.
