Screenings of star-studded Rolling Stones 1968 TV special “Rock and Roll Circus” scheduled for April

ABKCO Films/Screenvision MediaA restored version of the star-studded 1968 Rolling Stones concert special Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus will be screened in select theaters across the U.S. on April 1, 2, 3 and 4. The program will be shown via Dolby Vision laser projection system and features Dolby Atmos surround-sound audio.

Rock and Roll Circus originally was intended to air on BBC TV, but was shelved until 1996 because Rolling Stones weren’t happy with their performance.

In addition to The Stones’ original lineup playing such memorable songs as “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Sympathy for the Devil,” the special also featured The Who, Jethro Tull, Marianne Faithfull and one-off supergroup The Dirty Mac, made up of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and The Jimi Hendrix Experience‘s Mitch Mitchell.

The Jethro Tull lineup seen on Rock and Roll Circus features founding Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, and is the only time he ever performed with Tull. The special also marked the last time founding Stones guitarist Brian Jones played with the group.
