Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard pays tribute to late Brad band mate, Shawn Smith

Steven Dewall/RedfernsShawn Smith of the Seattle band Brad passed away over the weekend. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, who also plays in Brad, has now shared a tribute to his late band mate.

“My dear friend Shawn passed quietly/peacefully in his sleep,” Gossard said. “Our deepest condolences and love to his family, close friends, and the thousands that were touched by his one-of-kind voice and his beautiful breaking heart.

“I love you, Shawn Smith,” he added.

Smith’s death was confirmed in a Facebook post on Saturday by Brad drummer Regan Hagar. Smith was 53.

Brad’s debut album, Shame, was released in 1993. The band’s most recent effort is 2012’s United We Stand.
