Sammy Hagar and his band The Circle will release their first studio album, Space Between, on Friday, May 10, and The Red Rocker’s says fans also will soon be treated to a film that brings the record’s 10 songs to life.
Hagar tells ABC Radio that the movie, which he says “will blow your mind,” was created by ZZ Satriani, a young filmmaker who’s also the son of Sammy’s Chickenfoot band mate, Joe Satriani. Hagar says ZZ, who recently graduated film school, is a genius, like his father is as a guitarist.
As Sammy explains, Space Between is a concept album focusing on how money can corrupt and can also be used for good. He says ZZ’s film “takes you through the whole ride,” adding that the flick “reminds me of when I [first] saw Pulp Fiction…within about the first 10 minutes I went, ‘What in the hell is this?!'”
You can preview the film by checking out the videos ZZ directed for the Space Between tracks “Trust Fund Baby” and “Can’t Hang,” posted on Hagar’s official YouTube channel.
Sammy says he hired ZZ to make the movie after bringing him in to shoot some extra footage while Hagar and The Circle were putting together an episode of Sammy’s AXS TV series, Rock and Roll Road Trip, promoting Space Between.
After checking out the footage, Sammy first asked ZZ to make the “Trust Fund Baby” video, which he thought was brilliant. He then gave the young Satriani “a bunch of money” to make the movie, which he says is “as good as any rock thing” he’s seen.”
Hagar adds that he hopes the Space Between movie will be shown at film festivals, although he’s not sure yet when or where it’ll premiere.
