The invite-only gathering is presented jointly by The ASCAP Foundation and the Library of Congress, and it celebrates the annual gift that the Foundation — a division of the performers-rights organization ASCAP — presents to the Library of Congress.  The gift includes manuscripts, lyric sheets, letters and photos from some of the country’s most respected songwriters.

Besides Felder, Cavaliere and Go-Go’s guitarists Jane Wiedlin and Charlotte Caffey, the list of performers include veteran pop/R&B songwriter Andrea Martin and This Is Us soundtrack composer Siddhartha Khosla. The event will be co-hosted by ASCAP Foundation president and legendary songwriter Paul Williams.

The “We Write the Songs” event is held a day before ASCAP’s annual “Stand with Songwriters” Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill.  Many of the performers who take part in the event will meet with lawmakers to discuss issues facing songwriters in the age of digital music.
