Blue Elan RecordsAmerica singer/guitarist Gerry Beckley will release a new solo album titled Five Mile Road on September 20.

The record features 12 new original songs, 11 of which Beckley penned on his own and one, a tune called “Life Lessons,” that he co-wrote with actor/musician Bill Mumy, who perhaps is best-known as his role as Will Robinson in the 1960s TV show Lost in Space.

“Life Lessons” has been released as the upcoming album’s first single, and is available now as a digital download and via streaming services. You also can check out the melodic, Americana-flavored song at Blue Élan Records’ official YouTube channel.

“I knew that this batch of songs, even the choice of the album’s title, was going to be about my journey,” Beckley says of Five Mile Road, which is a follow-up to his 2016 solo effort, Carousel.

The new album features musical contributions from Mumy, ex-Chicago singer/bassist Jason Scheff and founding Poco singer/pedal-steel player Rusty Young. That being said, Beckley was responsible for much of the instrumentation on the record, including acoustic and electric guitars, bass, piano and keyboards. Gerry also handled most of the backing vocals on Five Mile Road.

“When I make a solo album, there’s a whole lot of ‘solo’ in there!” he explains with a laugh.

Beckley continues to tour with America, and the band has dozens of upcoming shows lined up in celebration of its 50th anniversary. You can check them out at VenturaHighway.com.
