The Allman Brothers Band Recording Company
Fillmore West ’71 will be available as a four-CD set, and features previously unreleased performances from a three-night stand the band played on January 29, 30 and 31. The shows took place less than two months before The Allman Brothers’ historic performances at the Fillmore East in New York City that were documented for the band’s classic 1971 live album At Fillmore East.
The Fillmore West shows featured multiple renditions of early Allmans tunes, including “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Midnight Rider,” “Dreams” and “Whipping Post,” as well as classic cover tunes like Blind Willie McTell‘s “Statesboro Blues,” Muddy Waters‘ “Trouble No More” and Willie Cobbs‘ “You Don’t Love Me.”
The January 30 set featured a rendition of T-Bone Walker‘s “Stormy Monday,” while the final show included a cover of Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” and the instrumental Allmans jam “Hot ‘Lanta.”
Rounding out the collection is a previously unreleased bonus track, a 45-minute version of “Mountain Jam” recorded on March 13, 1970, at The Warehouse in New Orleans.
You can check out the version of “Trouble No More,” which the Allman Brothers played at the January 29 show, exclusively at RollingStone.com.
