The initiative kicks off with the “Motorhead ’79” campaign, which will see the October 25 release of deluxe 40th anniversary versions of the Overkill and Bomber albums. There’s also a 1979 vinyl box set featuring the two reissues, plus an LP of outtakes, B-sides and rarities, a replica tour program, memorabilia and more.
The campaign has the full cooperation of the estates of the late members of Motörhead’s classic lineup: singer/bassist Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor.
The Overkill and Bomber reissues will be available as two-CD and three-LP sets, and feature remastered versions of the original records, as well as archival interviews with Motörhead’s members. Bonus two-disc live collections will capture shows from around the time of each album’s release.
The concert album featured with the Overkill reissue, titled Good N’Loud, documents a March 31, 1979, show in Aylesbury, U.K. The Bomber reissue’s bonus live set, Sharpshooter, captures a November 3, 1979, performance in Le Mans, France.
The box set includes 180-gram, half-speed-mastered vinyl editions of Overkill and Bomber, the double-live albums, a 40-page magazine-sized booklet boasting rare photos and interviews about the era, a vinyl rarities and outtakes disc titled The Rest of ’79, a seven-inch “No Class” vinyl single, a replica program for the Bomber tour, an Overkill sheet-music book and a “’79” badge set.
To celebrate the “Motorhead ’79” campaign, a previously unreleased video of the band playing “Bomber” live in 1979 has been posted on YouTube.
The reissues and box set can be pre-ordered now. Check out full details of all the releases at Motorhead79.com.
