Courtesy of Joey MollandJoey Molland, the last surviving original member of Badfinger, is working on a new solo album, and he’s asking fans to help him fund the project via a recently launched Kickstarter campaign.

Molland currently is working on the album in Brooklyn, New York, with award-winning producer and songwriter Mark Hudson.

“I’ve wanted to make this album for several years now,” Joey says in a statement. “The songs are solid and quite catchy — many harken back to that power pop/rock sound I began my career with.”

In a video promoting the campaign, Hudson says, “I’m so excited to be producing Joey Molland’s new album. So far the rough tracks are sounding great, and I’m sure you’re gonna love it. It’s kind of reminiscent from that old band he used to be in…Badfinger.”

Campaign contributors will receive perks and premiums, depending on the amount they pitch in. They include sitting in on a recording session; contributing backing vocals to a track over the phone; having coffee with Molland and Hudson; enjoying a CD listening party; receiving a Facetime chat with or custom voicemail message from Joey; handwritten lyrics; signed CDs, lithographs and photos; and much more.

As of Monday morning, more than $17,000 of the $35,000 goal had been reached. The initiative ends on October 9.

As previously reported, Molland is among the artists taking part in the fall U.S. tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of The BeatlesWhite Album, along with The MonkeesMicky Dolenz, Todd Rundgren and others.
