David M. Benett/Getty ImagesPink Floyd‘s David Gilmour will join his wife, author and lyricist Polly Samson, at three upcoming U.K. events promoting her new novel, A Theatre for Dreamers, which will be released on April 2.
The events, dubbed “A Theatre for Dreamers — An Evening of Words and Music with Polly Samson and David Gilmour,” will take place on March 30 in Birmingham, March 31 in Manchester and April 2 in London.
In a recent post on his Twitter feed, the 73-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer wrote, “Very much looking forward to these #ATheatreForDreamers live events in Birmingham, Manchester & London with @PollySamson to celebrate her wonderful new novel. I’ll be performing a few songs, including a new one — ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’ — which we wrote together, inspired by the book.”
A Theatre for Dreamers is set in 1960 on the Greek island of Hydra, and focuses on a circle of artists and writers who lived there, including the real-life Canadian singer-songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen and his lover and muse, Marianne Ihlen.
In addition to Gilmour’s performances, the book events will include a conversation between Samson and journalist Rosie Boycott, readings and a film screening.
Samson, who married Gilmour in 1994, contributed lyrics to most of the songs on Pink Floyd’s 1994 album, The Division Bell, and on David’s last two solo albums — 2006’s On an Island and 2015’s Rattle That Lock.
As previously reported, Gilmour also will be performing at a star-studded concert Mick Fleetwood has organized saluting Fleetwood Mac‘s original frontman, singer/guitarist Peter Green, that takes place this Tuesday, February 25, at the London Palladium. The lineup also includes Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie, ex-Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman and U.K. blues legend John Mayall.
