ABC/Randy HolmesA new video has been released for Chris Cornell‘s song “The Promise,” the final track he released before his death this past May. The visual, dubbed the “theatrical version,” mixes footage of the late Soundgarden frontman recording the song with scenes from the film The Promise, for which Cornell originally wrote the track.

“The Promise” reflects the themes of its namesake movie, which takes place during the Armenian genocide. Proceeds from the song were donated to the International Rescue Committee humanitarian charity.

Cornell was posthumously honored with the inaugural Promise Award during a ceremony held this past Tuesday in Los Angeles. Named after the song, the newly created award “recognizes an outstanding song, television show, or film that advances the values of equity and justice in an original and powerful way.” Cornell’s widow, Vicky, and his Soundgarden band mates, Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, attended the ceremony.
