The day after Chuck Berry died, I put together an hour-long special that featured Chuck’s music, as covered by classic rock artists in the `60s,
`70s, and `80s. I had a chance to tell my favorite story about meeting Chuck. That was my first encounter with a rock star. It happened on June 16, 1964, when my band was one of the opening acts for Chuck Berry. I know it really happened, because someone posted this on Facebook recently:
I was in a band called The Continentals! I had only been playing drums for about a year at that time, but our manager was the concert promoter! It was a classy event in a movie theater (“Air Conditioned by Refrigeration”), that even featured the “Jam Session Dancers!” Here’s my story about what happened that day:
Chuck Berry and Johnnie Johnson from the movie “Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll” that honored Chuck on his 60th birthday. I was at that show–I should be in the credits as “Audience Member #1,356.”
