ABC/Andrea McCallinWhen Nirvana was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear reunited to play the band’s songs for the first time since Kurt Cobain died. For the performance, artists including Lorde and Joan Jett were recruited to handle lead vocals.
Could something like that happen again? Grohl says it’s up in the air. In a piece for the U.K.’s The Times, he remembers the Rock Hall performance as one of the “seminal gigs” of his life.
“I got together with my old band mates, Krist and Pat, and guests including Joan Jett and Lorde, and we played those songs again — it sounded just like it did, but of course with one thing missing,” Grohl writes. “We hadn’t played a Nirvana set since Kurt died.”
“Could we do that again?” Grohl continues. “I don’t know.” That’s not exactly a conclusive statement, but it does leave the door open.
As for what we do know? The new Foo Fighters album, Concrete and Gold, will be released September 15.
