Reprise RecordsNeil Young has released CD versions of two archival box sets featuring remastered editions of some of the albums he put out during the 1970s. Both can be purchased at the folk-rock icon’s online store.
The first collection is titled Original Release Series 5-8, and features four albums that were out of print for many years: 1973’s Time Fades Away, 1974’s On the Beach, and 1975’s Tonight’s the Night and Zuma. It’s priced at $49.98.
The second box set, which is called Original Release Series 8.5-12, gathers together five Young albums: 1977’s American Stars ‘n Bars, 1978’s Comes a Time, 1979’s Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust, and Neil’s 1976 collaborative album with Stephen Stills, Long May You Run, which was credited to The Stills-Young Band. It costs $54.98.
Only 3,000 copies of each collection will be available. Both sets were previously issued on vinyl.
As previously reported, Young will release an archival studio album titled Hitchhiker on September 8. The 10-track collection was recorded live in one day in August 1976, and features Young accompanying himself on guitar. The album features stripped-down early renditions of eight tunes that went on to appear on other Young albums, as well as two previously unreleased songs.
