Gregg DeGuire/WireImageOn Tuesday night, Stone Temple Pilots played a special show at the Troubador in Los Angeles where one-time The X Factor contestant Jeff Gutt was announced as their new singer, Variety reports.

A Detroit native, Gutt was a runner-up in season three of the reality-TV music competition series. He auditioned for STP in September of last year and was secretly made the band’s new vocalist in May. Gutt has been writing and recording new material with band mates Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz in Redondo Beach, California.

Gutt was on The X Factor in 2013, where he was mentored by former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland and performed covers of songs like “Creep,” “Dream On” and “Hallelujah.”

A new STP song, “Meadow,” will go to radio and will make its online debut later this week.

Original singer Scott Weiland died in December 2015 of a drug overdose while on a solo tour.

The late Chester Bennington briefly replaced Weiland in early 2013 departed in 2015 to focus on Linkin Park.

Before Tuesday, STP had not performed live since March 2016, with Bennington on vocals, for a one-off reunion concert in California.
