The new documentary Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars has been chosen as one of the National Board of Review’s top documentaries of 2017. The winners of the annual National Board of Review Awards, which acknowledge excellence in film in a variety of categories, will be presented at a gala on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.
The organization picked Jane, a biographical film about primate expert and anthropologist Jane Goodall, as its Best Documentary, while four other docs were chosen as “Top Documentaries” alongside Life in 12 Bars.
As previously reported, Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars offers an intimate profile of the British guitar legend’s life, including his traumatic childhood, his rise to rock stardom, his struggles with drug addiction and the tragic 1991 death of his young son Connor. The film, which was directed by Oscar-winning producer Lili Fini Zanuck, features extensive interviews with Clapton, as well as with his family members, friends, collaborators and admirers.
The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is slated to get its TV debut on February 10, 2018, on Showtime.
In other news, Clapton recently confirmed his first concert of 2018, a July 8 show in London that’s part of the annual British Summer Time Hyde Park series. A number of famous guests will be joining Eric at the event, including his one-time Blind Faith band mate Steve Winwood, Santana and acclaimed blues-rock guitarist Gary Clark Jr. More artists will be added to the lineup.
