ABC/Randy HolmesMetallica drummer Lars Ulrich is here to help you get into the holiday spirit with the telling of a heartwarming Christmas tale called Stick Man.

The story, which Ulrich read on BBC Radio 2, follows a stick who, due to a series of circumstances involving dogs and rambunctious children, becomes separated from his stick wife and children and their “family tree.”

At one point, our wooden hero is about to be used for a firewood, but luckily, Santa starts to come down the chimney and saves him. A sentient stick being burned to death does sound like it could be a Master of Puppets song, though.

If you enjoy hearing Ulrich speak in couplets, he also appeared on BBC Radio last year to read a Christmas story called The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas.

Metallica is off for the rest of the year, and they’ll resume their European tour in support of their new album Hardwired…to Self-Destruct in February.
