Dia Dipasupil/Getty ImagesFormer Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will be on hand to give an introductory talk at a free event next week in New York City, as part of his ongoing Reasons to Be Cheerful project.
Byrne says the new event, which also will be streamed live on his official website and Facebook page on Monday, January 8 at 12:30 p.m. ET, is a “continuation and extension of some writing and talks” he’s done recently that focus on positive and encouraging things going on around the world.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer points out, “This is an online project that…will be cross-platform — some elements may appear on social media, some on a website and some might manifest as a recording or performance.”
He explains, “I began to look for encouraging things that are happening anywhere, and if they have been tested, if they have been proven to work, if they can be transferred and adopted in other places, if they can scale up — then let’s hold them up for consideration, and let’s invite others to add to this project.”
Byrne adds, “There are actually a LOT of encouraging things going on around the world — they’ve given me hope, and I’d like to share them.” He also reveals that the project has coincided with his work on a new album, which he feels has been influenced by the positive things he’s been compiling.
As previously reported, a listing for an apparently new Byrne album titled American Utopia with a March 9 release date was briefly posted on Amazon. No official details have been released, however. Byrne launches a series of six U.S. concerts on March 3 in Red Bank, New Jersey, and will be performing at the 2018 Coachella festival in Indio, California, on April 14 and 21.
