ABC/Heidi GutmanBillie Joe Armstrong‘s new collaboration with famed tattoo artist and makeup mogul Kat Von D — an eyeliner called Basket Case — arrived today. In a behind-the-scenes video, Von D calls the Green Day frontman the “king of dudes wearing eyeliner.”

“I think this might be the first time there’s been a guy eyeliner, or male eyeliner,” Armstrong says of Basket Case. Naturally, he’s pretty excited about it, but he has one request: Don’t call it “guyliner.”

“I don’t like to use ‘guyliner,’ that’s pretty silly,” he laughs.

The 45-year-old Armstrong has been wearing eyeliner since he was 18 or 19, around the time Green Day first started.

“It was kind of the ultimate pickup line,” he says. “Hanging out in the punk scene…asking a girl if she has eyeliner.”

While Basket Case is available now, you may need to wait a bit before you can see Armstrong’s eyeliner game in person, as Green Day doesn’t have any tour dates currently lined up. In November, the punk trio released their God’s Favorite Band greatest-hits collection, featuring the new song “Back in the USA.”
