Scott Dudelson/WireImageChris Robinson is ready to embrace The Black Crowes‘ music again, but not as a member of The Black Crowes. Instead, he has put together a band called As the Crow Flies to perform primarily Black Crowes songs on a spring U.S. tour.
Joining Robinson in As the Crow Flies are fellow former Crowes members Adam MacDougall, Andy Hess and Audley Freed, plus Marcus King and Tony Leone. The 17-date trek kicks off April 17 in Port Chester, New York.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Robinson says he’s excited to play Black Crowes favorites for fans for the first time in a long while, as his current band, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, only performs a couple of Crowes tunes. “It’s been five years since I sang ‘She Talks to Angels’ and five years since I really sang ‘Thorn in My Pride.’ As time goes by I’m like, ‘Wow, here’s a little period of time.'”
As to whether he’ll ever properly re-form The Black Crowes, Robinson says don’t count on it. “I’ve made my commitment. I’m sorry there’s not going to be any Black Crowes anymore.”
However, when pressed about a reunion, Robinson added, “I mean, the only reason I could see that…it would only be for money.”
When asked about his relationship with his estranged brother and former Black Crowes band mate, Rich Robinson, Chris reveals the two haven’t spoken in “about five years.”
In response to whether he misses his brother, Chris adds, “All of us have our lives and I wish him all the best and I only want him to be happy, healthy and safe with his family and the people that he loves. Other than that, no.”
