Tommy Lee says Netflix Motley Crue biopic starts shooting next month

Steve Jennings/WireImageOn Thursday, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee tweeted an update on the film adaptation of the group’s biography, The Dirt – Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.

He wrote, “Hey kids! Good news!!! The Motley Crüe movie “The Dirt” has begun pre production! Starts shooting in Feb! Here we go!!!”

Also on Thursday, Variety reported that rapper and actor Machine Gun Kelly has been signed to play Tommy Lee. 

Jeff Tremaine, director and producer of the Jackass movies, is directing. The script was written by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos. Motley Crue is co-producing the film.

Based on the 2001 autobiography, co-written with Neil Strauss, the film will follow Motley’s rise during the ’80s scene on Sunset Strip and promises to pull no punches.
