David Wolff – Patrick/WireImageDrummer Pat Torpey, one of the founding members of Mr. Big, has died, his publicist confirmed. Torpey died Wednesday, February 7 of complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 64.
The hard-rocking Mr. Big topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991 with a different sort of track — “To Be With You,” a song which took the style of the big rock power ballad and stripped it back down to its acoustic essence.
Mr. Big, which broke up in 2002, reunited in 2009 and Torpey played with the band until Parkinson’s forced him from the road in 2014.
In the course of his career, Torpey also played with a number of other acts including The Knack, Belinda Carlisle and John Parr.
