Elektra/RhinoThe Cars will release remastered and expanded versions of its fourth and fifth albums, Shake It Up and Heartbeat City, on Friday, March 30, about two weeks before the band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Both reissues will be available on CD, as two-LP vinyl sets and digitally. Each album will feature several bonus tracks, including B-sides, remixes, and previously unreleased demos, early versions and outtakes.

Shake It Up was released in November 1981 and peaked on the Billboard 200 chart at #9. Among its standout songs was the title track, which was a #4 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Since You’re Gone,” which just missed breaking the top 40. The album has sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S. to date. The previously unreleased bonus tracks on the Shake It Up reissue include a demo of the title track, an early version of “Since You’re Gone” and the outtake “Midnight Dancer.”

Heartbeat City hit stores in March 1984 and climbed to #3 on the Billboard 200. The record yielded five top-40 hits — “Drive,” “You Might Think,” “Magic” and “Why Can’t I Have You.” “Drive” was The Cars’ highest-charting single ever, reaching #3 on the Hot 100. The album has sold more than 4 million copies in the U.S. Among the extra tracks on the reissue are an unreleased demo of “Drive,” a remix of “You Might Think” and the single “Tonight She Comes,” a top-10 hit for the band that originally appeared on their 1985 Greatest Hits compilation.

The “Drive” demo is now available for purchase as a digital single and via streaming services.
