Capitol Records/UMeBob Seger has debuted an official lyrics video for the title track to his latest studio album, I Knew You When, which was released in November. The mid-tempo ballad is a nostalgic, heartfelt tribute to his late friend, Eagles singer/guitarist Glenn Frey.

The clip, which you can watch on Seger’s VEVO YouTube channel, features a series of animated black-and-white sketches based on photos of the Michigan rocker at different ages, starting with a picture from the late ’60s that’s featured on the cover of the album. The final image in the video is of Seger with his arm around Frey’s shoulders.

Seger dedicated I Knew You When to Frey, and the album includes a number of tracks inspired by Glenn or boasting themes reflecting Bob’s relationship with him. Seger also pays homage on the album to a couple of other late singer/songwriters he admired — Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed — by covering their respective songs “Democracy” and “Busload of Faith.”

As previously reported, Seger postponed the last 19 dates of his 2017 fall tour because he needed to undergo surgery to treat a ruptured disc in his neck. He is hoping to return to the road by the spring, although there’s no word yet on when the shows will be rescheduled.
