Top rock, pop and country stars “revamp” and “restore” Elton John classics on two new albums

Island Records/Universal Music Group NashvilleA pair of Elton John tribute albums titled Revamp and Restore, which feature stars from various music genres covering the pop-rock legend’s classic songs, will be released on April 6.

Revamp features a variety contemporary rock, pop and R&B artists putting their spin on the iconic musician’s work, including Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Mary J. Blige, Ed Sheeran, The Killers, Sam Smith, Queens of the Stone Age, Florence and the Machine and Mumford & Sons.

The album kicks off with a reworking of “Bennie and the Jets” featuring Sir Elton himself, in collaboration with pop star Pink and Grammy-nominated rapper Logic.

Meanwhile, Restoration sees some of country’s biggest names, as well as The EaglesDon Henley, performing renditions of Elton John songs. Henley is featured duetting on “Sacrifice” with country star and current Eagle Vince Gill.

Other country artists appearing on the album include Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Chris Stapleton, Lee Ann Womack, Little Big Town, Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert. Cyrus also contributed a tune to Restoration.

“As songwriters, Bernie [Taupin] and myself are thrilled when singers we admire and respect as much as those on Revamp & Restoration choose to add their own unique twist in the process,” says John in a statement. “It means that our music is still relevant and ultimately that our songs continue to reach new audiences. We’re humbled and thank them all for their generosity.”

Several artists featured on Revamp and Restoration also will appear on the upcoming TV special Elton John: I’m Still Standing — A Grammy Salute, which airs April 10 on CBS.
