Credit: David LaChappelleWhile the music charts are now generally dominated by younger pop and R&B artists, it’s a different story when it comes to ticket sales. According to StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, the top concert ticket seller of 2018 so far is an artist who’s been at it for 50 years and counting…Sir Elton John.
This is no doubt due to the fact that Elton’s upcoming tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, is being billed as his last one — the pop-rock legend says he will no longer do extensive world tours once this one wraps up. Even more impressive, Elton’s trek doesn’t even start until September.
Coming in next on the list is an equally legendary rock artist: Bruce Springsteen. His Springsteen on Broadway shows, currently scheduled to wrap up June 30, 2018, are currently among the hottest tickets in town.
At #5 on StubHub’s list of overall ticket sales is another veteran rock act: The Eagles. The band, which many fans thought would never tour again following the January 2016 death of co-founder Glenn Frey, decided to return to the stage with Glenn’s son Deacon and country star Vince Gill rounding out the lineup. Their tour, which started this week, will run through October.
Coming in at #8 are Foo Fighters, who will launch a new tour promoting their 2017 album Concrete and Gold on April 18 in Austin, Texas.
Rounding out Stubhub’s 10 most popular tours ranked by ticket sales is Billy Joel, who continues to play a monthly residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, as well as select other concerts in other cities.
