New Stone Temple Pilots singer won't bring back Scott Weiland's signature megaphone: “That's sacred with him”

Credit: Michelle ShiersDuring his life, Scott Weiland was known for singing through a megaphone during his live performances. New Stone Temple Pilots singer Jeff Gutt, however, won’t be bringing that move back to the stage.

“That’s sacred with [Weiland],” Gutt tells The Detroit News.

Eerily enough, though, a megaphone was involved in convincing Gutt to take the STP gig. When he got the call telling him he got the job, Gutt was in his laundry room — and a megaphone happened to be sitting next to the washing machine.

“I felt like that was Scott’s way of giving me a little nod,” Gutt says.

Stone Temple Pilots recently wrapped their first tour with Gutt in support of the band’s new, self-titled album. They’ll hit the road again for a festival run in April.
