ABC/Craig SjodinDirector Judd Apatow pays tribute to his friend and comedy legend Garry Shandling in a new two-part documentary titled The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling. In a bonus clip from the doc, streaming now on Billboard.com, Apatow and Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder perform a song in honor of Shandling.
As Apatow explains during the collaboration, which was filmed at Bonnaroo 2016, the song, titled “Dear Mind,” was written from Shandling’s personal journals. The result is a sincere and emotional acoustic performance by Vedder, cut with Apatow dryly reading Shandling’s unused one-liners.
The second part of The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling airs tonight on HBO at 8 p.m. ET.
