Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic for Bonnaroo Arts and Music FestivalThe surviving members of the grunge band Mother Love Bone — Pearl Jam‘s Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, plus guitarist Bruce Fairweather and drummer Greg Gilmore — reunited over the weekend at a Seattle charity event to play their first live show together in eight years.
“It’s so touching for the band, for all of us, to have you guys care about these songs still,” Gossard told the crowd prior to the 15-song set. You can watch fan-shot footage of the performance now on YouTube.
During the show, lead vocals were handled by local Seattle singers Om Johari and Shawn Smith. Mother Love Bone’s original singer, Andrew Wood, died just days before the band’s 1990 debut album Apple was scheduled to be released.
Following Wood’s death and the dissolution of Mother Love Bone, Gossard and Ament teamed up with Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron and Mike McCready to form Temple of the Dog as a tribute to Wood. Eddie Vedder sang on Temple of the Dog’s one and only album; he, Gossard, Ament and McCready then went on to form Pearl Jam.
Mother Love Bone’s surviving members previously reunited in 2010.
