BMGAs the last surviving member of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, drummer Carl Palmer has been keeping the legendary British prog-rock group’s music alive via his touring band, Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy.  On June 29, Palmer’s band will release a CD/DVD set called Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy Live.

The set features full performances from shows that took place, respectively, in Buffalo, New York, in 2014 and Miami in 2016.

The CD includes audio from a show that took place in November 2014 at Buffalo’s Tralf Music Hall. The set  list featured a full version of “Tarkus,” Rogers & Hammerstein‘s “America” from West Side Story, and the King Crimson classic “21st Century Schizoid Man.”

The DVD, meanwhile, documents a June 2016 concert at Miami’s Olympia Theater that paid tribute to late ELP keyboardist Keith Emerson, who committed suicide at age 71 in March of that year. The show included guest appearances by ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and Vanilla Fudge singer/keyboardist Mark Stein.

That Miami concert featured a performance of “Karn Evil 9 (Welcome Back My Friends),” plus renditions of Mussorgsky‘s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and Aaron Copland‘s “Hoedown” and “Fanfare for the Common Man.”  The DVD also includes bonus behind-the-scenes footage.  Carl himself wrote the liner notes for the package.

In addition to Palmer, ELP Legacy features guitarist Simon Fitzpatrick and bassist Paul Bielatowicz.

“It’s metal prog-rock playing Emerson, Lake and Palmer,” Carl says of his group. “It’s original and unique, and that’s important to me.”
